Sealevel Systems announces two additions to the popular SeaLINK USB to serial product line, the SeaLINK+4.SC and SeaLINK+8.SC. Laser Transmitter Modules for 10Gb/s and 8Gb/s SFP+

With its new transmitter optical sub assembly (TOSA) series Mitsubishi Electric has developed four 1.3µm band laser modules for optical transmission at speeds of 10Gb/s and, respectively, 8Gb/s. Each individual module fits into an enhanced 8.5 and 10 Gigabit small form factor pluggable module (SFP+) measuring just 13.3mm x 13.4mm x 56.5mm. Compared to XFP (10 Gigabit small factor pluggable module) the SFP+ compliant transceivers are 60 percent smaller in width and 70 percent smaller in length. The new devices use a Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) for the electrical interface between the modules and transceivers.

Tensilica has announced that Triductor Technology, of Santa Clara, CA, and Suzhou, China, has signed a second license for the Diamond Standard 212GP general-purpose processor core and has completed a second design tape out. Triductor has used the Diamond 212GP processor as the system controller for VDSL2 design for both the customer premise (CPE) and central office (CO) designs. The Diamond 212GP is an area-efficient, low-power, fully synthesizable 32-bit RISC processor core that also supports basic single-MAC DSP functions.

Texas Instruments has introduced a family of high- or low-side measurement, bi-directional current shunt monitor integrated circuits (ICs) in SC70 packages. Utilizing a zero-drift bi-directional architecture, the INA210 family provides outstanding accuracy up to 1 percent over the -40C to +125C temperature range, with 35uV maximum offset. The near elimination of offset with zero-drift reduces the voltage drop and power dissipation in the accompanying shunt resistor by an order of magnitude, which reduces cost and circuit board real estate. The ICs can be used in a wide variety of applications, including servers, telecom equipment, automotive, battery management, computers, power supplies and test equipment.

As security camera system designers move from aging CCTV to high-quality Internet Protocol (IP) networks, they are challenged with keeping overall system costs down, increasing image quality and reducing camera design complexity and implementation time. Recognizing these challenges, today Texas Instruments and Aptina Imaging, a division of Micron Technology Inc., announced that they are offering the DM355IPNC-MT5 high-definition (HD) IP network camera reference design based on TI's DaVinci TMS320DM355 digital media processor and Aptina's 5-megapixel HD security image sensor. With an electronic bill of materials (eBOM) costs of less than $40, video surveillance providers can now add these cameras to their existing systems – at the cost of a traditional analog video camera – and gain the flexibility to upgrade to an IP-based, HD network camera when ready.

The MOST Cooperation, the organization through which the leading automotive multimedia network Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) is standardized, has created MOST Specification Rev. 3.0 for the next generation infotainment backbone. It is a complete overhaul of the specification structure offering several new features. While the specification is independent of speed grade, it can already work with the newly defined MOST150 physical layer. Thus it enables the use of higher bandwidth of 150 Mbps, an isochronous transport mechanism to support extensive video applications, as well as an Ethernet channel for efficient transport of IP-based packet data.
