Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM8033, a complete 3A DC/DC µModule regulator system. In addition to the device's onboard inductor, DC/DC converter and supporting circuitry, it includes an EMI filter, making it compliant with EN55022 Class B by a wide margin. The circuitry is housed in a small 11.25mm x 15mm x 4.32mm enclosed plastic LGA package and weighs only 2.3g. The LTM8033 operates from a wide input voltage range of 3.6V to 36V and can provide a regulated output voltage ranging from 0.8V to 24V at up to 3A. If more than 3A is required, multiple LTM8033 devices can be paralleled for current sharing.

Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM4618, a 6A DC/DC µModule® Regulator, which includes the inductor, MOSFETs, DC/DC regulator, input and output bypass capacitors and supporting circuitry in a 2.3g, 9mm x 15mm x 4.32mm LGA package. The LTM4618 features output voltage tracking for systems that need to sequence multiple rails for proper power up and down, and 250kHz to 780kHz fixed frequency PLL capability for noise-sensitive applications that require the switching frequency of the regulator to be a set value. For low voltage loads such as Vcore of FPGAs and processors, the LTM4618 includes safety features such as output overvoltage and short-circuit protection, as well as guaranteed +1.75% maximum total output DC error. Linear Technology introduces the LTC3816, a single-phase synchronous step-down DC/DC controller implementing the Intel® IMVP-6®, IMVP-6+®, and IMVP-6.5® protocols. Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP) is a smart voltage regulation technology that effectively reduces the amount of output capacitance required for a given output error budget. Semtech announced a new boost converter platform offering the world's smallest step-up regulators for low-voltage applications. The SC120, SC121 and SC122 boost inputs from as low as 0.7V to a regulated output settable from 1.8V to 5.0V and are available in tiny 1.5x2mm ultra-thin (0.6mm max.) plastic packages. With many advanced features, these devices are ideally suited for portable applications powered by alkaline, NiMH, or 1-cell Li-ion batteries, or as point-of-load regulators in non-portable applications where a low voltage needs to be boosted to a higher voltage rail for localized use.

Linear Technology has announced the LTC3553, a micropower multifunction power management integrated circuit (PMIC) solution for portable Li-Ion/Polymer battery-based applications. The LTC3553 integrates a USB-compatible linear PowerPath™ manager, a stand-alone battery charger, a high efficiency synchronous buck regulator, a low dropout linear regulator and pushbutton controller in an ultrathin (0.55mm) 3mm x 3mm QFN package. A pin-selectable standby mode reduces battery drain current to just 12µA while keeping all outputs in regulation, extending battery run time. The LTC3553 is well suited for low power portable device applications, including personal navigation devices (PNDs), media players and handheld medical and industrial devices.
MAX8952: 2.5A step-down converter allows application processors to run at maximum clock speed in handheld applications
Maxim introduced the MAX8952, a synchronous, high-efficiency, DC-DC step-down converter. Maxim's advanced BiCMOS process and packaging technologies enable this device to deliver up to 2.5A of output current from a tiny 4mm2 wafer-level package (WLP). This high-current capability allows applications processors to run at maximum clock speed. The small package and high-current output make the MAX8952 ideal for high-performance portable devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs.

Triple Output LED Driver Drives Up to 24 x 500mA LEDs & Offers a 150˚C Maximum Junction Temperature
Linear Technology announces the H-grade version of the LT3496. The LT3496 is a 2MHz DC/DC converter designed to operate as a three-channel constant current LED driver. Each of the device's three channels can drive up to eight 500mA LEDs in series, enabling it to drive up to 24 x 500mA LEDs at efficiencies up to 96%. The H-grade version operates up to a junction temperature of 150˚C, compared to the E- and I-grade versions' 125˚C maximum junction temperature. All electrical specifications are identical for the E-, I- and H-grade versions. The H-grade parts are tested and guaranteed to the maximum junction temperature of 150˚C. They are ideal for automotive and industrial applications which are subjected to high ambient temperatures.

MAX17040/41/43/44: Compact fuel-gauge ICs accurately estimate Li+ battery state of charge while eliminating discrete components in portable applications
Maxim introduced the MAX17040/MAX17041 and MAX17043/MAX17044 1- and 2-cell fuel-gauge ICs. Using the Company's ModelGauge algorithm, these are the industry's only fuel gauges that accurately estimate the state of charge (SOC) of a Li+ battery without requiring current sensing. ModelGauge ICs eliminate the current-sense resistor and require very few external components, thus saving both space and cost. Because of their simplicity, low implementation cost, and small size, these ICs are ideal for handheld 1- and 2-cell Li+ battery applications like wireless handsets, smartphones, e-books, portable game players, digital cameras, handheld computers and financial terminals, portable navigation equipment, and portable medical equipment.

Vishay unveiled the first TrenchFET power MOSFET built on a new low-on-resistance technology optimized for higher-voltage devices. The new ThunderFET SiR880DP is the first 80-V power MOSFET with an on-resistance rating at a 4.5-V gate drive. Packaged in the thermally enhanced PowerPAK® SO-8, the new 80 V SiR880DP offers ultra-low on-resistances of 8.5 mΩ at 4.5 V, 6.7 mΩ at 7.5 V, and 5.9 mΩ at 10 V. Linear Technology announces the H-Grade version of the LT3686. The LT3686H is a 1.2A, 37VIN step-down switching regulator. The LT3686H operates within a VIN range of 3.6V to 37V with overvoltage lockout, protecting the regulator and load from transients as high as 55V, making it ideal for load dump and cold-crank conditions commonly found in automotive applications as well as 24V industrial supplies. Auto-Polarity, Millivolt Voltage Step-Up Converter & Power Manager
Linear Technology announces the LTC3109, a highly integrated step-up DC/DC converter and power management IC designed to start up and run from millivolt input voltage sources such as thermoelectric generators (TEGs) and thermopiles. The device's groundbreaking and proprietary auto-polarity topology allows it to generate usable power from input voltages as low as ±30mV, enabling temperature differences as low as ±1°C to be harvested in lieu of traditional battery power. This makes it ideal for energy harvesting applications in which the input voltage polarity is unknown or is subject to reversal. Energy harvesters are well suited for applications requiring low average power, even with periodic pulses of higher load current. For example, in many wireless sensor applications the circuitry is only powered to take measurements and transmit data periodically with a low duty cycle.
