TI's low-power roadmap should enable more portability for productsGiving engineers the scalable solutions they need to design both basic and feature-laden portable end products, Texas Instruments has introduced its low-power processor roadmap with more than 15 new devices across four product lines.
USB security dongle from Future Technology DevicesFuture Technology Devices International has announced the availability of its USB-Key security device. Using a unique, hard-coded identification number, the device can interface to any USB host or hub to provide application software access control (security dongle) or as part of a more sophisticated key-based physical access control. During manufacture, the USB-Key has a unique FTDIChip-ID number burnt into it. This number is only readable over the USB interface, making it ideal for PC or embedded security developments. The USB-Key, compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 specifications, derives its power from the USB interface and does not require any external supply or battery.

UHF FM Transmitter Module from RadiometrixThe TX2S, from London-based wireless module manufacturer Radiometrix, is a miniature PCB mounting UHF radio transmitter for the 433.92MHz (UK) or 434.42MHz (European) radio bands. Contained within a compact package, measuring just 20x10x2 mm, it allows design engineers to create a simple data link (either with a node-to-node, or multi-node architecture) which is capable of supporting rates of up to 40kbits/s at distances of as much as 75m in-building and 300m across open ground. NEC Electronics and Skyley Networks Announce Compliance of ZigBee PlatformNEC Electronics and Skyley Networks have announced that their jointly developed ZigBee platform has been deemed as a ZigBee Compliant platform (ZCP) on the ZigBee PRO specifications by the ZigBee Alliance. The ZigBee compliant platform is based on an NEC Electronics' 78K0R 16-bit microcontroller, a wireless RF transceiver chip by Uniband Electronic Corporation (UBEC) and the ZigBee PRO stack, which is software to manage the network. The NECEL/Skyley ZigBee platform had been deemed as a ZigBee Compliant platform on the specifications of the ZigBee feature set since Oct. 9, 2007.

Touch Controller for Slider and Buttons from AtmelAtmel has announced the AT42QT2160 - a touch controller IC combining touch key and touch slider functions in a single device. The AT42QT2160 can control up to 16 individual touch keys with a slider comprising between 2 and 8 of the touch key channels. In addition, the chip can also control up to 11 LEDs through a PWM output function that is controlled by the host, eliminating the need for an external LED controller.
